January exports hit 459,000 tons, boosting 2026 outlook
Record-breaking figures for Brazilian chicken exports in January 2026 have set a promising tone for the year ahead. According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), exports of chicken, including both fresh and processed products, reached 459,000 tons. This volume marks a historic high for January and represents a 3.6% increase compared to the same month last year.
Revenue Growth
In terms of revenue, the performance was equally impressive. External sales amounted to USD 874.2 million (EUR 733.4), a 5.8% rise from January 2025's USD 826.4 million (EUR 693.3). This growth is particularly noteworthy given the typically lower international demand during this period, underscoring the robust global appetite for Brazilian poultry.
Key Markets
The United Arab Emirates emerged as the leading destination, importing 44,300 tons, a 14% increase year-on-year. South Africa followed with 36,800 tons, marking a substantial 34% rise. Other significant markets included Saudi Arabia and China, each importing 33,500 tons, though China's intake decreased by 25%. Japan and the European Union also showed positive trends, with imports rising by 4% and 24%, respectively. Notably, Chile recorded a remarkable 51% growth.
Regional Export Leaders
Within Brazil, the state of Paraná maintained its position as the top chicken exporter, shipping 187,700 tons, up by 3.9%. Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul also contributed significantly, with increases of 9.3% and 3.9%, respectively.
Future Outlook
Ricardo Santin, President of the ABPA, highlighted the strong January performance as indicative of a favourable outlook for 2026. He noted the consistent growth across major markets, particularly in the UAE, South Africa, and the EU, as a sign of expanding opportunities for Brazilian chicken exports.
